Set along the Covelong coast, Sheraton Chennai brings together tropical landscape, coastal calm and refined resort design. Surrounded by palms, sea breeze and open light, the hotel creates a retreat shaped by nature and softened by material detail.

The hotel uses cardamia flexible stone panels across walls and ceilings, including Rome Travertine, Brun Stone and Hokkaido Bamboo Weave. Their clean tones and natural textures create a calm, pure and elegant atmosphere, giving the property the feeling of a secluded coastal sanctuary.

Located near the sea and exposed to tropical sunlight, the project required surfaces that could withstand humidity, salt mist and strong UV exposure without compromising design quality. After considering texture, cost, durability and long-term maintenance, the design team selected cardamia flexible stone panels as a high-performance alternative to conventional materials.

With a water absorption rate of just 8–10%, cardamia helps keep interior wall surfaces dry in humid, salt-laden environments. It is also well suited to showers, pools, spas and other moisture-prone areas.

Coastal buildings face constant exposure to sun, salt, moisture and reflected light. cardamia flexible stone panels are designed to resist ageing, helping surfaces retain their appearance and integrity even in demanding outdoor conditions.

cardamia flexible stone panels are Class A fire-rated under EU standards and meet China’s A2 fire-resistant material requirements. Their non-combustible, heat-resistant and non-peeling properties make them suitable for ceilings, internal walls and external facade applications in hotels, offices and other high-use buildings.

For Sheraton Chennai, cardamia preserved the warmth of natural textures while improving practical performance. Resistant to water, salt mist, UV exposure and fire, the material offers designers greater freedom for coastal hospitality spaces where beauty, comfort and durability must work together.

Tropical light, sea air and natural texture — a setting where design feels calm, resilient and beautifully at ease.
